How to make a clock

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 Drywall Nails
  • 3 Alligator Clips
  • Copper Wire
  • Galvanized Nails
  • Galvanized Nails
  • 2 baking potatoes
  1. Step 1

Assemble your supplies. You'll need two common galvanized nails; three alligator clip/wire units - that is, alligator clips connected to one another with wire; two short pieces of heavy copper wire; a simple low-voltage LED clock unit; and two potatoes. Obtain a simple LED clock unit that functions from the power of a 1- to 2-volt, button-type battery.

  2. Step 2

Open the battery compartment and remove the battery.

  3. Step 3

Note that there is a positive (+) and a negative (-) terminal point where the battery was installed.

  4. Step 4

Identify the potatoes as number one and number two.

  5. Step 5

Insert one nail in each potato.

  6. Step 6

Insert one short piece of heavy copper wire in each potato, placing it as far from the nail as possible.

  7. Step 7

Use one alligator clip/wire to connect the copper wire inserted in potato one to the positive terminal in the clock unit.

  8. Step 8

Use one alligator clip/wire to link the nail in potato two to the negative terminal in the clock unit.

  9. Step 9

Use the final alligator clip/wire to link the nail in potato one to the copper wire in potato two.

  10. Step 10

    Set your clock.

How to assemble ur own Computers

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Select the components that you would like to be in your new computer. This is often the hardest part of assembling a computer, because there are many different computer parts on the market, and ensuring that all the parts are compatible with each other can be a time-consuming process. At a minimum, you will need a case, power supply, motherboard, RAM, processor, processor heat sink/fan, video card, hard drive, CD-ROM drive, network card and sound card. There are many other parts to choose from, such as TV cards, wireless cards, cameras and printers.

  2. Step 2

Find a clear area to work, such as a large table. Carpeted areas should be avoided, due to the chance of static electricity buildup on your clothes.

  3. Step 3

Install the power supply into the case, if they came as separate components. Secure it using the four screws provided.

  4. Step 4

Open the motherboard and line it up to the expansion slots at the back of the case. Place standoffs into the case at any point where a screw hole in the motherboard lines up with the standoff slot in the case. Secure the motherboard with screws, and connect the proper lead to it from the power supply.

  5. Step 5

Connect the cables for the panel lights and switches on the case to the motherboard. Connect any front-panel USB or sound headers.

  6. Step 6

Orient the processor so that the marked corners on the processor and socket line up correctly. Gently slide the processor into place, and lock it down with the lever on the side of the socket.

  7. Step 7

Install the heat sink and fan assembly over the processor, with thermal grease in between them. Immediately hook the power lead from the fan to the motherboard.

  8. Step 8

Slide the RAM into the proper sockets until it clicks.

  9. Step 9

Mount the hard drive and the CD-ROM drive into the case. Connect the IDE or SATA cables to the motherboard. Connect a cable from the power supply to each drive.

  10. Step 10

Install the sound card, video card and network card into the PCI, AGP or PCI Express slots. Connect all the cables they require.

  11. Step 11

Connect all external components, such as the keyboard, mouse and monitor.

  12. Step 12

Boot the machine and install an operating system.

How to Make a Robot

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wheel base
  • Velcro (2)
  • Professional grade glue
  • RC receiver/controller combo (four degrees movement or more)
  • Battery (nickel cadmium or lead acid)
  • Servos (2)
  • Dual lock tape
  1. Step1

Look around and locate any electronic parts that can be used in your robot. Do you have old toys laying around? Consider stripping down an old radio controlled car for parts. These cars will provide most of the parts necessary for your robot, particularly if the battery is still in good standing and can be salvaged.

  2. Step2

Strip down the unnecessary pieces of the RC car, including the plastic frame, and leave just the wheel base. Set aside any parts (servos, battery, etc.) that may be used later. Also, locate a receiver and a controller that are compatible. If the RC car is in working order, you can use the receiver/controller combo from this vehicle for your robot. Otherwise, consider purchasing a receiver and associated controller that support at least four degrees of movement (up, down, left, right).

  3. Step3

Take two pieces of velcro and use professional grade glue to attach them to both the top and bottom of the wheel base. Then, attach the battery to the bottom of the wheel base via the velcro piece, and the receiver to the top of the base in the same fashion.

  4. Step4

Use dual lock tape to secure the two servos of your robot to the perimeter of the top of the wheel base. They should be located near the wheels and on directly opposite sides of one another.

  5. Step5

Wire your components together through the receiver. Take the battery leads and wire them to the channel on the end of the receiver marked "Batt" or "Battery." This should be away from where the servos will be wired. Note that the connectors/channels where these connections will be made are located on the end of the receiver.

  6. Step6

Wire the two servos to the channels of the receiver in a similar manner as the battery. Ensure that the servos are wired to channels that are directly adjacent to one another.

  7. Step7

Power on your controller and test the movement of your robot. Ensure that no wires drag below the base of the robot and onto the ground. Add any decorations as you see fit to give your robot personality.
