How to Test the Speed of an SD Device

Navigate your Web browser to the HD Tune website, then download and save the drive testing application to your computer.

Browse to the folder where you saved the HD Tune application. Double-click the file to launch the installation utility, then follow the on-screen prompts to install HD Tune on your computer. Restart the computer if prompted to do so.

Insert the SD card you want to test into the card reader of your PC.

Double-click the desktop icon to launch the HD Tune application. Select and highlight the SD card to test from the list of available drives in your computer.

Click on the "Read" radio button, then enable the "Transfer Rate" option check box by clicking it. Click the "Start" button to begin the test. Repeat the process for the "Write" option.

Review the "Transfer Rate" results next to the "Benchmark" label.

Visit the Crystal Mark website, then download the application and save it to your PC. Double-click the Crystal Mark setup file, then follow the on-screen prompts to install the program on your computer. Restart your PC if prompted to do so.

Insert the SD card into the card reader and allow it to initialize.

Open the Crystal Mark application, then select the SD card storage device from the drop-down list in the upper right-hand corner of the program window.

Click "All" in the upper left part of the screen to start the speed test. After the test finishes, review the results in the center area of the window. The results are shown in the number of megabytes per second with regard to "Read" and "Write" transfer rates.
